The King’s Table
The King’s table is built from a century old magnolia tree that fell on a historic home in St. Augustine about 10 years ago.
It was crafted by Austin Weeks and the team at Old Town Timber right here on San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine. Part of the reason we are so thrilled to have had Austin and his team create this table is because like the team here at 17 King, Old Town Timber is inspired by the rich history of America’s oldest city.
17 King sits at the corner of King Street and Aviles Street, the oldest street in America. A tavern occupied this location more than 150 years ago and we are proud to carry on that heritage of hospitality where all are welcome to enjoy good food and drinks, lively music and great company.
Finally for the romantics among us, the very spot where our table sits also happens to be the place where Austin and his wife had their first date. And we have the pictures to prove it! The King’s table sits in the front window at 17 King and hosts wine tastings on a daily basis. In the evenings, it is available for dinner reservations. Book your King’s Table Experience today.
Wine tastings in
St. Augustine
We pour tastings every day at the corner of King Street and Aviles Street in the heart of the historic district. You can take a seat at the Kings table located in the bay window of our bistro, settle into a dining room table with friends, or for a more private setting we can walk the 48 steps (yes, we counted) to our remote wine tasting experience located in La Casa Studios, where we can seat up to 60 for a private wine experience.
You and your guests will be walked through a tasting and bites by our sommelier surrounded by the beauty and art of our gallery, elevating the experience.
A tasting at 17 King moves through 4 pours. We build each flight around items you can order off the menu, so it holds together instead of feeling like a sampler, it is an experience. Our sommelier stays with you through the whole experience.
You will learn where each wine comes from, what makes it worth pouring, and what to look for in the glass. Then we open the floor for questions, which we are delighted to answer. Its the reason we sit you at a table, we want to engage with you.
The 17 King Wine Tasting Process
Three Ways to Taste with Us
Our table, known as the kings table, sits in the front window, built from a century old magnolia that came down in a storm, here in St Augustine. Come with friends or come ready to make new ones. Our Kings table welcomes parties of 2 – 10. Sometimes the best conversations bloom from the mix of strangers and a good Pinot.
If you would rather have your own space, we also offer tastings at our dining tables, it's perfect for couples.
Book a tasting for a bigger group at La Casa, and we will build a flight dedicated to the occasion. Birthday, anniversaries, bachelorette parties, networking, team outings, etc. We can handle up to 60 in the space.
The List Behind the Tasting
We keep over 100 bottles on the list, and the tastings pull straight from it. Champagne from Bollinger and Moet. Sancerre and Chablis from France, Alberino from Rias Baixas, Vermentino out of Tuscany. On the red side there are Barolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont, Brunello and Chianti Classico from Tuscany, Amarone from the Veneto, Bordeaux from Margaux and Saint Emilion, Willamette Valley
Pinot from Ken Wright and Domaine Serene, and Napa Cabernet from Caymus, Groth, Stags' Leap, and Beaulieu's Georges de Latour and a Tawny port from the Douro to finish.
That depth is why we can build a tasting around almost anything you are curious about. Want to understand Nebbiolo? We can do that. Want to taste four chardonnays and finally figure out which style you actually like? We can do that too. Browse the full wine list, or just tell us what you love. And we’ll take it from there.
Private and Professional Wine Tastings
A guided tasting is a great group activity. It gives people something to talk about. It has a beginning, middle and end. So nobody is stuck making conversation across the table with Janice from accounting.
*If your name is Janice and you can prove you work in accounting, your tasting is on us! We host private wine tastings for:
• Holiday parties, team dinners and entertaining clients.
• Wedding parties and rehearsal dinners.
• Birthdays, anniversaries, and retirement parties.
• Conferences and conventions in St Augustine
